PREFACE: Very likely, not a single mission in the world is impossible for a human. A person’s destination is always reached through consistent effort and dedication. Man has advanced tremendously in the globe as a result of this trait. To me, learning a new language is an adventure, similar to sailing. Wherein, floating on the vast ocean of linguistic heritage, among the rising and rolling waves of words; the voyage carries on the calm, and sometimes excited winds of notions.
The book under review makes an endeavour to teach Urdu in a technically sound manner so that the learners wouldn’t have any fears about their lack of proficiency or inferiority complex and would develop complete command of the language like native speakers from the very beginning. The idea is to put up a strong basis and acquaint them with the language and expressions as if it were their native tongue.
The most important and attention-grabbing feature in Urdu learning is character recognition. First of all, a lot of Urdu alphabets have rather similar shapes and are only separated by dots. Secondly, letters in Urdu can assume one of three different forms depending on their position and placement in a word, as opposed to English, where they can only take one of two shapes: capital and small. Thirdly, several words in Urdu have a similar sound, such as ذ، ز، ض، ظ. Thus, the theory of alphabets has been thoroughly covered and discussed in full detail in the initial lessons. Then, the topics of Urdu vowels, Masculine and Feminine, Singular and Plural, and Adjectives are discussed in detail with entire technical principles of construction, and every attempt is made to boost vocabulary through examples. Next, the rules of Prepositions, Conjunctions, Interjections, Interrogative Words, Simple to-be Verbs, Positive Compounds, and Pronouns are explained with rich examples in the following four lessons. This way, after completing the first ten lessons, the learner becomes able to speak, understand, read, and write short simple sentences fluently.
Here, I would like to mention an essential aspect of learning a language; that is Pronunciation. You will find that almost every Urdu word in this book has its pronunciation listed in front of it. I have put in tremendous effort to make it standardized, systematic, yet simple, comprehensible, easy to learn, and above all, completely error-free. These pronunciations are consistent with a certified Urdu dictionary to the least possible detail. Let’s have a look at some of its unique features that are employed throughout this book.
To provide you with the finest possible service, I have recorded the audio-video pronunciation of the Urdu words contained in this book. The format of each of these recorded files is MP4. You will receive these audio-video files together with the PDF book as a complete package, in order for you to fully grasp Urdu speech.
With the aid of my MA in Mass Communication degree and 16 years of professional experience in Urdu copywriting and translations, I have done my best through this book to transform O- and A-level kids into Urdu champs, to offer in-depth tutoring for non-native speakers and emigrants, as well as to provide technical guidance to help students and media professionals improve orthography and pronunciation. Keeping in mind every individual category of learners, I have tried to write very simple English, so kindly forgive any grammatical or structural imbalance.
Have a blessed journey of Learning URDU with Volume 1! Meanwhile, I’ll be coming up with the next one.
